"Strike" is a heating process used to bring out the color in metal colloid-based (Striker) glass. The glass is held at a temperature range from the maximum temperature to near the slow-cooling point, causing the dispersed metal atoms to nucleate and grow into nanoparticles.
The holding time is more critical than the temperature; if it is too short, no color develops, and if it is too long, the particle size increases, resulting in a brown or black color. The color changes significantly between before and after firing.
