stress-optic coefficient

A constant linking stress and birefringence (Brewster's constant). It is used to convert stress based on the color of a polarizing filter. / Note: Soda-lime glass: approx. 2.5–2.7; lead-based glass has a lower value.

The stress-optic coefficient (Bullseye constant B) is a constant that relates the stress applied to glass to the resulting birefringence. For the Bullseye COE90 series, it is approximately 2.5×10⁻¹² Pa⁻¹.

It is used to calculate the magnitude of stress based on the interference colors (retardation) observed through a polarizing filter.
