Make the score only once. If you rescore it, you’ll damage both the blade and the wood, and it won’t split cleanly. If you make a mistake, just split along that line and trim it to shape.
Make the score (cut) in one smooth motion from one end to the other, just once.
Tracing over it again will damage the cutter blade and cause the cracks to become irregular, making it harder to break.
Your score is determined by a single attempt. Once you’ve drawn a line, don’t redraw it—even if your hand slips partway through.
If you pull the blade twice, tiny glass shards will get caught in the blade, making subsequent scoring difficult. It also shortens the blade's lifespan.
If you start to have second thoughts along the way, cross out that line to clean it up, then draw a new one. The trick is not to dwell on your mistakes.
