One shrinks, and three expand

When a single sheet of glass is fired, it shrinks; when three or more sheets are fired, it expands. This is due to surface tension. You can predict the shape simply by changing the number of sheets.

One sheet shrinks due to surface tension; two sheets retain their shape almost completely; three or more sheets spread out under their own weight.

Choose the number of sheets based on the desired thickness and shape.

6 mm (2 sheets) is the balance point. If it’s thinner than this, it shrinks; if it’s thicker, it expands.

If you want to accurately predict the size after firing, the number of layers (thickness) is the most significant factor.
