Copper red is a red coloration caused by copper colloids (Cu⁰ nanoparticles). It occurs when copper ions are reduced to metallic copper in a reducing atmosphere and precipitate as nanoparticles. If oxidation progresses, the coloration does not occur. Maintaining the reducing state and following an appropriate temperature profile are the conditions necessary for obtaining a stable red color.
